Maya Angelou - Still I Rise

Today I found out that Maya Angelou is ill and is hospitalized (reasons not known). All that I can say is that I wish her health. She is pronominal woman, one that has inspired may of us with her words. This has been my favorite poem since my freshmen year in high school. Like dust, I'll rise.

Still I Rise

You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.

Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
'Cause I walk like I've got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.

Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I'll rise.

Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops,
Weakened by my soulful cries?

Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don't you take it awful hard
'Cause I laugh like I've got gold mines
Diggin' in my own backyard.

You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I'll rise.

Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I've got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?

Out of the huts of history's shame
I rise
Up from a past that's rooted in pain
I rise
I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.

Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that's wondrously clear
I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise
I rise
I rise.

San Diego

What can I say....I have not been doing much lately. I was in San Diego about 2 weeks ago. I had a fabulous time. I will try to keep it short...arrived to SD and picked up a car. First we went to Ocean Beach, from there to Mission Beach, and then to Downtown; to the Gas Lamp District. The Gas Lamp Dis. is a great place to visit for the night life, walk around, have dinner, or for some drinks. On Saturday we went to La Jolla Beach, the most beautiful of the SD beaches in my opinion. Followed by a nice lunch at the Little Italy Dis. Later we went back to Mission Beach for a Gregory Issac Reggae concert which was very fun. It's great to be at a concert wearing shorts, sandals, and sand between your feet. Lastly on Sunday we meet up with other friends and went to New Port Beach for lunch, before catching our flight back home. Overall it was fun and can't wait to go back. Did I mention that I love the beach!! :D
